AHEAD OF SATURDAY’S GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION PRESIDENT BUHARI STORMS OSUN FOR OYETOLA

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari led stalwarts of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to Osogbo, capital of Osun state, to a mega rally of the ruling party ahead of Saturday, September 22, 2018 governorship election.

The APC candidate, Isiaka Oyetola is the former Chief of Staff to Rauf Aregbesola, the governor.

Speaking during the rally, President Buhari said “Oyetola is ready to work”.

He appealed to the people to vote massively for Oyetola to continue the “good work” of Aregbesola.

The president urged residents of Osun state not to allow the state return to what he described as the “dark days”.

According to President Buhari, the people of Osun state should come out in their numbers and vote during the governorship election. He said that:

“Nigeria must be free of corrupt and selfish leaders. The children of all Nigerians will get quality infrastructure, education, healthcare and job opportunities.

“This is why you must all come and vote for APC on the 22nd of September 2018. Osun must remain APC, Osun must remain on the path of progress. Osun must not allow the dark days to return”.

Speaking at the rally, Governor Aregbesola, expressed confidence that the APC would emerge victorious in the exercise.

“We are winning the election of Saturday, September 22 by the grace of God and we are coming back to jubilate.

“Why must God support us? Because we have worked 24 hours of every single day of the 2,922 days allowed by the constitution to serve the people of this state. Merely looking at me will testify to that fact.

“Our party has done the impossible here, we have changed the face of Osun and for that reason and the will and power of God, we are returning Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola on September 22 as the governor-elect and we are returning Benedict Oluwagboyega Alabi as the deputy governor-elect. Both of them will be sworn in on Tuesday, November 27”.

The rally was attended by Adams Oshiomhole, chairman of the ruling party; Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the APC; Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation, and at least 13 governors of the APC.

The governors who attended the rally are Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano; Akinwunmi Ambode, governor of Lagos; Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna, Simon Lalong, governor of Plateau.

Other governors include: Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Abubakar Bagudu (Kebbi), and Godwin Obaseki (Edo).

Speaking on behalf of the governors, El-Rufai, said many of them will stay back in Osun until the election is over.
