The court of appeal sitting in Kaduna has upheld the election of Nasir el-Rufai as governor of the state.
On Thursday, November 7, 2019, dismissed the petition of Isah Ashiru, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the March 9, 2019 election.
Ashiru had challenged the outcome of the election at the tribunal but he lost. He had asked the tribunal to annul the election on the grounds that the process was flawed with fraud and irregularities but the tribunal upheld the election of Governor el-Rufai, who contested on the the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Dissatisfied, the PDP candidate appealed the tribunal’s ruling.
In a unanimous judgment delivered by a three-man panel of judges led by Olumuyiwa Aburu, the appellate court dismissed the petition for lacking in merit and upheld the judgment of the election tribunal.
