The counsel to Lt.Col Sambo Dasuki (Rtd) has poured cold water on claims by the federal government that Sambo declined two offers given to him to visit his Father on the eve of his death at an Abuja hospital and another offer the next day to attend his burial in Sokoto. Ahmed Raji SAN and attorney representing the embattled Sambo told newsmen that neither he nor his client are aware of any such offer and that the FG was not telling the truth about it. He was quoted as saying “As his counsel, we are not aware of that. Our client has not told us anything of that nature and it would have been expected that if such a gesture was going to be made to him, we, as counsel, should have been informed so that we could advise him better”.
“As I am speaking with you I am hearing about this for the first time. We are not aware of this and our client has not confirmed that the Federal Government extended such gesture to him,” Ahmed Raji added. The lawyer also berated the FG for disregarding the bail granted his client by three different Judges accusing the FG of gross disobedience of court orders. He said the disobedience of the Ecowas court order was the peak of the FG’s irresponsibility.
Dasuki’s lawyer spoke to newsmen on the sidelines of an Abuja high court after Justice Baba Yusuf fixed December 7th for continuation of hearing of the case against his client who is being tried by the FG for misappropriation of public funds. Interior Minister General Abdulrahman Danbazau rtd told journalists on Tuesday in Sokoto of the FG’s offer for Sambo to attend his late fathers funeral which he claimed was turned down.
