The Federal House of Representative has endorsed June 12 to be marked as the new democracy day.

The approval followed the adoption of a report by the House seeking to amend the public holidays act.

The House approved the amendments of three clauses in the act, one of which changes the democracy day from May 29th to June 12.

The amendment was informed by President Mohammadu Buhari’s declaration of June 12 as the new democracy day in honour of Chief M.K.O Abiola, the presume winner of the 1993 June 12 Presidential election.
