The gale of impeachment of key officials of states houses of assembly swept through the Kano state of assembly Monday, after members removed the speaker, replaced him and sworn in a new speaker.
Alhaji Abdullahi Ata, the former speaker was impeached by members of the house after a motion for impeachment was raised by Hon. Labaran Madari, who represents Warawa constituency. Abdullahi Mohammed, the only member of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in the house seconded the motion.
The impeachment is coming after the house resumed Monday from a 2 months recess.
Alhaji Kabiru Rurum, the former speaker who was impeached over allegations of corruption was re-elected as speaker and sworn in immediately.
The former speaker was accused of not carrying other principal members of the house along in the running of the house’s affairs.
