Manchester United’s youngsters fell to shock 2:1 defeat away to Kazakhstan side Astana in their Europa League clash on Thursday, November 28, 2019.

Having seen his side qualify for the knockout stages, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer named the club’s youngest-ever starting XI in European competition with four players making their debuts.

The side was captained by Jesse Lingard For the day and he opened the scoring, his first goal in 28 matches after just 10 minutes through a deflected effort.

The visitors were in control for much of the game and should have doubled their advantage on 54 minutes. Tahit Chong fired over from close range when presented with a wonderful opportunity following good work from Luke Shaw and Angel Gomes.

Less than 60 seconds later, Astana were level when Dimitri Shomko fired past goalkeeper Lee Grant via a deflection.

Astana then crowned a historic night when Antonio Rukavina’s shot was diverted into his own net by defender Di’ Shon Bernard.

Gomes was twice denied by superb saves from goalkeeper Nenad Eric from long range strikes as United pressed the equaliser.

The defeat means United must beat AZ Alkmaar at Old Trafford in their final group match if they are to guarantee top spot in their group.
