The chief whip, Oyo state house of assembly, Wasiu Akinmoyede, has been arrested by the police over the death of Temitope Olatoye also known as Sugar, who was killed on Saturday, March 9, 2019.
Olatoye was a member of the house of representative and contested the senatorial election under the platform of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Oyo state. He was shot by suspected thugs in Elesu village, Lalupon, Lagelu local government area of the state.
The police were allged to have arrested Akinmoyede, who represents Lagelu state constituency, over the suspicion that he could be behind the killing, since they had been political rivals over the years.
Confirming the arrest, the speaker of the Oyo state house of assembly, Olagunju Ojo, said that the house was notified through a letter that Akinmoyede is under investigation. He said:
“I am not aware that he has been taken to Abuja. I am only aware that he is under investigations but I am not aware whether he has been taken to Abuja or not”.
But Olugbenga Fadeyi, spokesman of the Oyo state police command, said he knew nothing about the arrest of the chief whip.
