SenatorDanjuma Goje, senator representing Gombe central, has withdrawn from the senate presidency race.
The senator withdrew from the race after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, June 6, 2019.
According to the governor of Kaduna state, Nasir el-Rufai, Senator Goje, a contender for the race, backed out to endorse Senator Ahmad Lawan, the majority leader.
While speaking on the endorsement, Governor El-Rufai was surrounded by Senator Lawan, Senator Goje and Ìta Enang, senior special assistant to the president on national assembly matters.
The duo had met with the president earlier in the day as a result of the rift in the ruling party over the endorsement of Senator Lawan.
The senate majority leader had been endorsed by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as well as the president but that did not stop two of his colleagues in the north-east, senators Ali Ndume and Goje, from joining the race.
