President Donald Trump hastily attacked the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan over comments he made to Londoners urging them ‘not to be alarmed’ after Saturday’s terrorist attacks which led to the death of seven persons and almost 50 injured. Trump who reacted to the incident went ahead to throw jabs at Mayor Khan after misconstruing the Mayor’s response. Using his usual unconventional communication twitter channel, the U.S President used the incident to justify his Muslim ban and other decisions of his administration concerning Muslims and immigrants.
“At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in a terror attack and Mayor of London says there is ‘no reason to be alarmed!'” Trump tweeted shortly after the incident, the Mayor asked Londoners not to be perturbed about the imminent high police presence on the streets of British capital. The Mayor responded to Presidents Trumps tweet by noting that he had “more important things to do than to respond to Mr Trump”, who had “deliberately” taken his remarks “out of context”.
“The Mayor is busy working with the police, emergency services and the government to co-ordinate the response to this horrific and cowardly terrorist attack and provide leadership and reassurance to Londoners and visitors to our city,” Mr Khan added in his statement. But President Trump was not to end it there, He lectured his supporters and twitter followers about jettisoning political correctness in the fight against terrorism. “We must stop being politically correct and get down to the business of security for our people”, and that there was no gun debate after the attack “because they used knives and a truck”.Trump said in a series of tweets that have attracted condemnation from his critics and applause from his supporters.
