The crisis at the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) seems to increasing. This is as officers of the Nigeria police force are currently clashing with workers at the head office of Scheme in Abuja.
Usman Yusuf, NHIS executive secretary, who was suspended last week by the governing council of the NHIS has also been escorted into his office by the police officers.
You will recall that Yusuf had kicked against his suspension by the NHIS governing board, saying he would resume work on Monday, October 22, 2018.
He was however threatened by the NHIS workers union that they will lock him out of office if he dares to resume.
Therefore as early as about 7am on Monday, the worker’s locked the entrance gate, amid heavy security presence.
Yusuf arrived at 8:30am, gained entry into the premises with the aid of the police officers and he was accompanied to his office.
The police officers also teargassed the workers in the ensuing fracas.
