Novak Djokovic inched closer to world number one position with an historic win in the Shanghai’s masters.
The 31 years old Serbian defeated 21 years old Croatia’s Borna Coric in the finals of Shanghai’s Masters 6-3, 6-4, in a match that lasted 97 minutes to secure his fourth title in Shanghai.
Coric, ranked 13th qualified for his first Masters 1000 finals after a shocking victory over Roger Federer in the semi-finals.
Coric almost came back in the second set when he recovered from 0-3 down, to earn a break point at 2-3 before saving multiple championship points to break Djokovic to take a 5-4 lead.
But Djokovic recovered strongly to win his 26th straight set to secure his fourth title of the year, and to displace Roger Federer from second position on the ATP Rankings.
He is only 35 points behind world number one, Rafael Nadal in the ATP race for London.
