Faruk Aliyu, managing director, Hawthorn Suites, Abuja, has decried the high rate of tax levy which hotel operators pay to revenue authorities in Abuja.
Aliyu made this known while speaking to newsmen ahead of the grand opening of Hawthorn Suites by Wynthon taking place on Sunday, October 7, 2018. He said that:
“Multiple taxation is one of the major factors that affect business operators in the FCT, especially we hotel operators. We pay about 20 different taxes, ranging from Value Added Tax (VAT) to bicycle parking levy, among others. This has taken a big toll on the business, but we are trying to make progress”.
He called on the relevant authorities to look into the tax revenue and review it downwards to facilitate hospital business.
Speaking on the hotel, the General Manager of Hawthorn Suites, Amine Sa’ad, said the hotel was the first of its kind in Africa, and that it would be commissioned by the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai.
