The Kaduna state police command has confirmed the killing of 21 people by gunmen in Banono and Anguwan Aku communities in Kufana district of Kajuru local government area of the state.
Yakubu Sabo, the police public relations officer in the state, said in a statement that the attackers invaded the communities on motorbikes and started shooting sporadically.
He said that three other persons were injured during the attack which occurred on Monday, April 8, 2019.
According to him, the gunmen also rustled about 50 cows during the invasion. He said:
“We received a distress call that a group of armed men in large number on motorbikes entered Banono and Anguwan Aku; both are remote neighbouring villages in Kufana district of Kajuru LGA.
“The attackers started shooting sporadically, attacking the villagers and in the process shot and killed 21, injured three others and torched ten houses.
“The bandits also rustled about 50 cows.
“A combine Team of Police Mobile Force personnel, conventional policemen, soldiers, and local vigilantes were promptly mobilised to the area, who repelled the attack and evacuated both the dead and the injured ones to hospital”.
The police spokesman appealed to the people to assist security operatives with useful information that can lead to the arrest of the gunmen.
“The Command appeals to members of the public to continue to assist the Police with useful information that could help in addressing these challenges and for the possible arrest of these criminals”.
